Dollarama 21 per cent sees an increase in sales year-over-year

MONTREAL –

Dollarama Inc. enjoyed a 21 per cent year-over-year jump in sales in its latest quarter as the discount retailer scooped up consumers seeking cheaper products amid high inflation.

In the quarter ended April 30, the company said strong demand was held up across the board, from consumables to seasonal items and general merchandise, resulting in a profit boost of 23 per cent from a year earlier.

For same-store sales, the number of transactions grew nearly 16 per cent while purchase sizes also nudged up.

The local master planned community named the best in the nation has begun to work on another phase, on the way to 7,500 residences. This new phase of the Nexton communities in Summerville and Berkeley County are expected to add apartments for rent, hotels, office space and 150,000 square feet of shopping and dining space when it is completely built out over the next five to seven years.

The Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver says May home sales rose 15.7 per cent from a year earlier.

The BC board says Vancouver’s housing market is showing signs of heating up heading into the summer, as prices increased for the sixth consecutive month.

The board says sales for the month totaled 3,411, which was 1.4 per cent below the 10-year seasonal average of 3,458.

Toronto housing market sees biggest price gain since peak

The spring surge in Toronto house prices accelerated again in May, providing another sign of persistent inflation in parts of the Canadian economy before a key central bank interest rate decision next week.

The benchmark price of a home in Canada’s largest city increased 3.2 per cent last month to $1.14 million on a seasonally adjusted basis, the third straight monthly increase and the biggest since the market peaked in February 2022, according to data released Friday from the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board.
