Top Republican takes on the Biden administration over new energy rules for mobile homes

Mon. Tim Scott (R-SC) is asking the Biden administration to delay new energy standards for mobile homes set to go into effect at the end of next month.

In a new letter to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm given exclusively to Yahoo Finance, Scott said “this costly and misguided regulation” will squeeze low-income Americans who will be “unfairly asked to bear the costs imposed by climate alarmists.”

The new rules require more insulation and energy-efficient windows, changes that will increase the costs of building the homes. But they will also save Americans hundreds of dollars on their electricity bills while also

Stocks sink, yields tumble, oil prices steady: Stock market news today

US stocks sank and oil prices held steady Tuesday as new data showed fresh signs of labor market cooling and declining factory orders from businesses.

The S&P 500 (^GSPC) decreased nearly 0.6%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) slipped around the same amount. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) 0.5% slides.

Oil prices steady, with WTI crude oil — the US benchmark — wavering around $80 a barrel. After Monday’s big gains, oil was back in its four-month trading range after OPEC+ announced it would slash output by 1.16 million barrels per day.

On the economic front, vacancies at US

RBC helped arrange US$5.4B of ‘sustainability-linked’ financing for coal mine operator – National

Royal Bank of Canada is one of many global lenders who want to show that being green isn’t only about the color of money, but recent revelations about its investment in fossil fuel companies call into question its climate-action bona fides.

Global News has learned — from financial data firm Refintiv — that those arrangements include involvement in two significant credit lines to energy giant RWE, most recently in the news for its expansion of a coal mine in western Germany.

Data compiled in an analysis by environmental NGOs shows that since 2016, RBC is estimated to be the fifth-largest

Should You Be Concerned About Arsenic in Rice?

Arsenic-based pesticides have been used in agricultural practices for many years, and, accordingly, soils and groundwater in the US are contaminated with varying levels of arsenic. Because arsenic exists in soil and water, it finds its way into our food supply. And nearly all foods contain some level of arsenic.

What Foods Have the Most Arsenic?

Studies show that most of the arsenic in the American diet comes from meat, milk, poultry, pork, eggs and seafood. Poultry is the worst offender. Some chickens exceed the EPA safety limit for arsenic by 2,000%. Meat and poultry are high in arsenic because

ChatGPT will quickly handle at least half of the tasks of financial investment jobs, researchers predict

good morning,

The debate continues on whether generative AI large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT, designed to understand and generate human-like text, will impact the future of work, including finance.

Researchers at OpenAI, the company that launched ChatGPT, and the University of Pennsylvania released a working paper last week titled, “GPTs are GPTs: An Early Look at the Labor Market Impact Potential of Large Language Models.”

It predicts that about 80% of the US workforce could have at least 10% of their work tasks affected by the introduction of LLMs. And “approximately 19% of jobs have at least 50% of

Stellantis has also noticed that average new vehicle financing terms are getting longer, GM’s electric cargo vans are proving somewhat popular, and a never-ending tire trade secret scandal has swung back in Goodyear’s favour. All that and more in this edition of The Morning Shift for April 4, 2023.

1st Gear: In the Future, You’ll Never Stop Paying Off Your Car

As interest rates increase and cars get more expensive, buyers end up agreeing to ever-longer financing terms just to make those monthly payments bearable. We know that 84-month loans

You’re Right, It Is Very Expensive to Finance a Car These Days

  • Average new-car prices aren’t getting any more reasonable, and if you’re someone who finances their vehicle, you’re probably wondering where all the money’s going.
  • The average APR for new vehicles financed in March was 7 percent, helping create a market where the average payment for a new car is, gulp, $730.
  • That’s bad, but the number of people paying over $1000 is also on the rise. In Wyoming, more than 25 percent of car shoppers who finance have high payments. Sorry, truck shoppers.

The average price of a new car in the US has been climbing, again, and at least

NYPD Can ‘Probably Solve a Bunch of Cold Cases’ (Video)

Twice-impeached former president Donald Trump faces his arrangement on Tuesday, and when he arrives at the police station, he will reportedly have to provide a DNA sample. And once the NYPD did that, Roy Wood Jr. suspects a handful of other cases might get solved.

Wood kicked off his week of guest hosting “The Daily Show” on Monday, and naturally, he had some fun with the news of Trump’s indictment. Although he was criticized the fact that Trump is being arraigned “like he’s a normal person,” Wood couldn’t help but be delighted by the fact that he’ll still have to
