Branson’s rocket dream ends after mission failure

Sir Richard Branson’s rocket company Virgin Orbit has shut down, just months after a major mission failure.

It comes weeks after the firm set up to launch satellites paused operations to try and boost its finances.

It had been selling off items it owns in a bid to survive, including its converted jet Cosmic Girl, and most of its headquarters in California.

In January, its first ever satellite mission in the UK reached space, but fell short of its target orbit.

The mission was billed as a milestone for UK space exploration.

Alvernia’s O’Pake Institute client OCOA wins business plan competition

OCOA Beauty, a Reading-based company that makes curly hair products, has won first place at the annual tecBRIDGE Business Plan Competition in Wilkes-Barre.

The company, owned by sisters Cory Varona-Corniel and Nicol Varona-Cancelmo, won the $10,000 prize at the competition, as well as in-kind services valued at $100,000 including billboards and consulting services.

OCOA is a client of Alvernia University’s O’Pake Institute SPARK Business Incubator, and was one of three finalists the institute had at the April competition. New committee to report on North Bay’s long-term financial plan

Deputy Mayor Maggie Horsfield, also the budget chief, would be appointed as the chair of the Long-Term Financial Plan Committee with council approval of a motion on Tuesday’s agenda
