Ex-TikTok executive says Chinese government used app to locate, identify Hong Kong protesters

A former executive at ByteDance, the Chinese company that owns the popular short-video app TikTok, says in a legal filing that some members of the ruling Communist Party used data held by the company to identify and locate protesters in Hong Kong.

Yintao Yu, formerly head of engineering for ByteDance in the United States, says those same people had access to US user data, an allegation that the company denies.

Profits dipped as BMO and Scotiabank set aside hundreds of millions to cover bad loans

Two of Canada’s biggest lenders revealed quarterly earnings on Wednesday that suggest a gloomier outlook for Canada’s economy, with sharply lower profits and a large jump in the amount of money they’re setting aside to cover bad loans.

Bank of Montreal and Scotiabank posted quarterly results before stock markets opened on Wednesday, and while the exact numbers differed, they shared some worrisome themes.

Mondelez reveals CoLab snack brand participants

CHICAGO — SnackFutures, the innovation and venture team at Mondelez International, Inc., has unveiled the nine rising snack brands participating in its third annual CoLab.

First launched in 2021, CoLab is a startup program that helps Mondelez build a portfolio of “disruptive brands and venture pipelines.” Participants will receive a 12-week curriculum of virtual and hands-on sessions as well as networking opportunities and a $20,000 grant.
