Charleston marina company buys Florida operation > Charleston Business Journal

(Photo/Smith Aerial)Charleston-based PORT 32 Marinas has acquired Lighthouse Point Marina in Lighthouse Point, Fla. The purchase is part of PORT 32’s renewed focus on acquisitive growth along both the Atlantic Coast and the Gulf of Mexico, according to a news release from the company.

This is the second marina acquired by the company in the Fort Lauderdale area. Terms were not disclosed.

The purchase of Lighthouse Point represents the first marina acquisition by the new PORT 32 leadership team, which joined the company in late 2022. PORT 32 describes itself an owner, operator, developer and acquirer of a growing collection of

Peloton is recalling almost 2.2 million exercise bikes because the seat post can break

Peloton is recalling 2.16 million exercise bikes in the US and Canada because of a risk that the seat post could break during use, causing injuries.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Thursday it had received 35 reports of the seat post breaking and detaching from the bike during use. There were 13 reports of injuries due to falling from the bike, including a wrist fracture, lacerations and bruises.

This recall involves Peloton bikes with model number PL01, sold from January 2018 to May 2023.

Does Canada really need a digital loonie?

The Bank of Canada is wading into the fraught and controversial world of digital currencies, launching public consultations this week into how Canadians might use a digital dollar.

“We’ve been researching a digital dollar for quite a while now,” said Carolyn Rogers, the senior deputy governor of the central bank. “And we’re at a point where we need help from Canadians, we need to understand what Canadians want.”

And yet the bank maintains there is neither a need nor a plan to launch a digital loonie.

Mondelez reveals CoLab snack brand participants

CHICAGO — SnackFutures, the innovation and venture team at Mondelez International, Inc., has unveiled the nine rising snack brands participating in its third annual CoLab.

First launched in 2021, CoLab is a startup program that helps Mondelez build a portfolio of “disruptive brands and venture pipelines.” Participants will receive a 12-week curriculum of virtual and hands-on sessions as well as networking opportunities and a $20,000 grant.

Disney posts higher second-quarter earnings and revenue thanks to strong theme parks business

For the three months ended April 1, Disney earned $1.27 billion or 69 cents per share. That compares with $470 million, or 26 cents per share, a year ago.

After adjusting for one-time items, Disney earns 93 cents per share, matching analysts’ expectations according to a poll by FactSet.

Revenue rose 13% to $21.82 billion. This also met Wall Street’s forecast of $21.8 billion.

Sales at its parks, experiences and products segment rose 17% in the quarter. Revenue for the segment that includes Disney’s movie business increased 3%.

Settlement reached in Fox vs Dominion lawsuit

Dominion Voting Systems had two goals in its defamation case against Fox News — accountability and “trying to make Dominion whole,” said Justin Nelson, the lead counsel election technology company.

Both were accomplished in this settlement, he told CNN on Tuesday.

The payment of more than $787 million by Fox News to Dominion and the network’s statement acknowledging that its coverage of the 2020 election was false was “a strong message of accountability” and an important victory for the employees of his client’s company.

  • One of Japan’s biggest airlines accidentally underpriced some first class and business class tickets.

  • All Nippon Airways sold a ticket worth $16,300 for $890 because of a currency conversion error.

  • It is not clear if the airline will honor the tickets sold while the glitch was occurring.
