Hacks, ransomware attacks and data breaches seem to be in the news more and more often — and many people are getting alerts that their information has been compromised in the process.

According to a news post from Media Matters, far-right figures including white nationalist Richard Spencer and white supremacist Nick Fuentes joined the app within the first 24 hours of its launch. Richard Spencer’s account has since gone.

Canadian economy steady in April as real GDP remains unchanged – Business News

Statistics Canada says the Canadian economy remained essentially unchanged in April, following a slight uptick in March.

The federal agency’s advance estimate suggests real gross domestic product grew 0.4 per cent in May, led by the manufacturing and wholesale trade sectors.

The April figure came in lower than expected by Statistics Canada as services-producing industries were unchanged while goods-producing industries edged up 0.1 per cent.

The Canadian economy is largely expected to stall in the latter half of this year

Small plane with at least six people on board crashes in California

At least six people were on board a small plane when it crashed in California early Saturday morning, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed to CBS News.

The Cessna C550 business jet crashed at around 4:15 am local time near the French Valley Airport in Murrieta, California in Riverside County. The craft was “down in a field” and “fully involved in fire,” the Riverside County Fire Department tweeted on Saturday. The fire burned “approximately one acre of vegetation” and was contained at about 5:35 am

Businesses expect slowing prices, wage increases: BoC survey – Business News

Businesses continue to expect wage and price increases to be larger than normal, but they are shifting to closer to what they were before the pandemic, a new survey by the Bank of Canada suggests.

In its business outlook survey released Friday, the central bank said for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic businesses on balance expected slower wage growth over the next year.

Firms on balance also expected their input and output prices to grow at a slower rate over the next 12 months.

Overstock.com buys rights to Bed Bath & Beyond

NEW YORK –

Bed & Bath & Beyond will live on, online at least, after Overstock.com acquired the bankrupt retail chain’s intellectual property assets for $21.5 million.

The online retailer Overstock.com is dumping its name online and will become Bed & Bath & Beyond, which declared bankruptcy earlier this year. Overstock.com’s CEO Jonathan Johnson told The Associated Press in a phone interview on Thursday that the company is considering changing its corporate name but won’t make any decisions until after it digests the assets.
