Regina small business has surging energy bills amid SaskPower rate increases

Inflationary costs and rising energy bills are affecting businesses in Saskatchewan, and a Regina small business owner is hoping to get the province’s attention.

“We’re a business that’s open about 20 hours of the day, so our power is constantly running. And that’s definitely been one of the biggest challenges that we’ve noticed, as far as inflation,” said Morgan Choquer, part owner of The Cure Kitchen and Bar in Regina.

According to a new report, the US government “isn’t doing enough” for small businesses. I’m calling Baloney.

“Business owners don’t feel like the programs are all that effective and they also don’t even feel like they have a sense of what’s available, some of which maybe is effective,” said Joe Wall, national director of Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Voices, of the survey of more than 1,800 small businesses in 48 states.

DoD small business chief presses to revive innovation fund

WASHINGTON ― The Biden administration’s next budget request needs to revive a special fund to help small businesses with innovative ideas work with the Pentagon, a top department official said Tuesday.

Federal funding for Black entrepreneurs a ‘beacon of hope,’ though barriers persist

OTTAWA – When Sean Whyte opened a fashion store in early 2020, he had no idea a global pandemic would force him to throw out his business plan within a couple of months.

Whyte’s Kelowna business, Gray Hearts Denim, pivoted from selling a range of fashion attire to making denim face masks.

And while finding a way to be productive during a global pandemic was rewarding, Whyte knew he needed help to get his business off the ground again.
