Louisiana Small Business Awards set for May 3

The 2023 Louisiana Small Business Awards will be held at 6 pm May 3 at the Capitol Park Museum, 660 N. 4th St., Baton Rouge.

The event honors the small business person of the year, the US Small Business Administration Champions and the recipients of the Louisiana Economic Development Entrepreneur Awards.

Starboard buys Parler app

The digital media conglomerate Starboard said Friday it purchased the conservative social media site Parler and will temporarily take down the app as it undergoes a “strategic assessment.”

The deal came months after another acquisition agreement with rapper Kanye West, legally known as Ye, collapsed in November.

The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed by either company. Parler said the deal was concluded on April 7.

Taxes are due Tuesday in only 3 of 58 California counties

Only three of California’s 58 counties need their taxes filed by Tuesday — every other county has until Oct. 16 due to the series of atmospheric river storms that swept the state this winter.

The unusual split in tax dates is to give California residents and businesses impacted by power outages, flooding and deadly storms more time to file their federal and state income tax returns. All counties that were impacted by federal or state emergency declarations are eligible for the extension, which means every Bay Area county is included.

Shares of Cenovus Energy (CVE.TO)(CVE) have been downgraded by Scotiabank Global Equity Research as a weaker US refining margins challenge plans to slash debt and boost shareholder returns in 2023.
