Budget could have included more help for small businesses: CFIB CEO

There was some good news for small businesses in the federal budget but the head of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) said entrepreneurs are still facing big worries and the majority aren’t back to where they were before the pandemic.

In an interview with BNN Bloomberg on Tuesday, Dan Kelly, president and chief executive officer of CFIB, said the “government has to worry about how much firepower it has left, but so do small business owners.”

The initiative is looking for proposals that help smallholder farmers access international markets and supply chains. Proposals can be submitted by small businesses, industry associations, chambers of commerce, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The competition seeks to raise awareness among businesses and policymakers of the difficulties smallholder farmers encounter when it comes to international trade, highlight best practices, and support smallholder farmers’ participation in international trade with a view towards business innovation and resilience.

The deadline for submitting proposals is 5 May 2023.

American Express delinquencies on consumers, small business card member loans tick up in February

disclosed Wednesday February data on delinquencies for its US consumer and small business card member businesses, which showed an increase from the last two months.
