Lower taxes, utility relief on the election wish list for Alberta small businesses

Affordability is one of the top priorities for Alberta small businesses as the province heads into an election next month, says a group that represents many entrepreneurs.

However, small business owners are anxious about those concerns that will not be addressed during the May election campaign.

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) released the results of a new survey Tuesday showing while 95 per cent of Alberta small business owners intend to vote, just 16 per cent are “confident their concerns and priorities will receive attention.”

BC small businesses chafe at ‘unsustainable’ minimum wage hike – Business News

A 6.9 per cent minimum wage hike mandated by the BC government is “unsustainable” for some businesses, when stacked on all other costs downloaded onto businesses, I am a number of business groups.

As of June 1, the BC government is raising the minimum wage from $15.65 to $16.75 per hour, the province announced Wednesday.

Six small businesses graduate from Huron County start-up program

Huron County recently had six more businesses complete their Starter Company Plus program, obtaining grant funding totaling $15,000.

The 12-week training provides mentorship for those looking to start, expand, or buy a small business. This year’s participants were also paired with Digital Service Squad experts to improve their online presence.

NEW YORK (AP) — Banks will need to start reporting the demographics and income of small business loan applicants under new rules published by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on Thursday.

It’s a move that policymakers hope will lead to less discrimination and more transparency in the small business lending market, similar to how other laws have regulated the residential mortgage market for decades.
