Canadian home sales continue to pick up steam in May

OTTAWA, ON, June 15, 2023 /CNW/ – Statistics released today by the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) show national home sales were up again on a month-over-month basis in May 2023.

  • National home sales rose 5.1% month-over-month in May.

  • Actual (not seasonally adjusted) monthly activity came in 1.4% above May 2022.

  • The number of newly listed properties rose 6.8% month-over-month but is still historically low.

  • The MLS® Home Price Index (HPI) rose 2.1% month-over-month but was still down 8.6% year-over-year.

Stocks rally as investors shake off ‘hawkish’ Fed: Stock market news today

Stocks rallied on Thursday after a muted opening on the heels of the Federal Reserve’s “hawkish hold” on Wednesday, which suggested more rate hikes are likely later this year while rate cuts in 2023 are now off the table.

One sign of how unhinged greens have gotten is the rush to blame climate change for the Canadian wildfires that blanketed the Northeast with smoke and toxic air last week.

The Bank of Canada raises interest rates as it tries to get ahead of the hot economy

OTTAWA — After watching to see whether its aggressive rate hike path were enough to quash inflation, the central bank has opted to raise interest rates again — fueling speculation that another rate hike is in the cards for July.

The central bank announced a quarter of a percentage point rate hike on Wednesday. The rate increase brings its key interest rate to 4.75 per cent, the highest it’s been since 2001.
