Modi Unveils Plans in Independence Speech

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered his 13th consecutive Independence Day address from the Red Fort, outlining key initiatives to achieve a developed India by 2047. He emphasized the importance of focusing on seven key sectors, including manufacturing, food processing, technology, innovation, and digital technologies, to build a Viksit Bharat.

Mr. Modi announced several key initiatives, including training one crore youth in AI over the next year. He stressed the need for India to lead in emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, space technology, robotics, and data centers.

The Prime Minister also announced free online coaching for students preparing for competitive examinations, aiming to reduce the financial burden on families. This initiative will leverage existing digital public infrastructure, educators, and technological resources to build a nationwide network offering free coaching for various exams.

Modi reiterated his vision of making India a global hub for defence manufacturing, with an emphasis on self-reliance in advanced technologies such as hypersonic systems, drones, and counter-drone platforms. The Prime Minister mentioned that work on Sudarshan Chakra, an indigenous air defence system, was progressing rapidly. He emphasized the importance of domestic defence production, stating that strengthening indigenous capabilities is essential to enhancing India’s strategic preparedness and security.

Mr. Modi announced a nationwide talent identification programme to strengthen India’s sporting prospects, focusing on children aged between 5 and 15 years. He also highlighted the country’s efforts towards technological self-reliance, noting that semiconductor production had already commenced at three plants in India, with exports underway.
