AAP seeks meeting with L-G over alleged BJP scams

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has formally requested a meeting with Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu to discuss alleged financial irregularities involving the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) administration. On Sunday, AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha sent a letter to the L-G outlining concerns over procurement processes for bicycles, medicines, and rice, according to the letter.

Jha stated in the correspondence that a delegation comprising all Opposition MLAs, along with AAP state president Saurabh Bharadwaj, intends to present the gathered information to the L-G. The group hopes to draw his attention to the need for a thorough inquiry into these specific matters. The AAP leader emphasized that it is extremely important that the facts related to these cases come to light and appropriate action is taken against the guilty parties.

“Our objective is to place factual information on these serious matters before the L-G and draw his attention to the need for an investigation and appropriate action,” Jha wrote. He urged the Lieutenant Governor to provide an appointment at the earliest, noting that it is essential for the facts to come to light. The letter specifically requests a fair and impartial investigation into the alleged schemes, stating that the AAP and the Opposition will fulfill their responsibility regarding issues that affect the interests of the people of Delhi.

During the recent political back-and-forth, the BJP dismissed the allegations on August 12 as baseless. Party officials claimed the AAP was merely rattled by the government’s welfare schemes, a response that contrasts with the current push for a formal review of the procurement practices. In a post on X on Sunday, Mr. Jha said: “I have written a letter to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Delhi providing detailed information, documents, and other important facts related to the serious cases of the bicycle scam, medicine scam, and rice scam, and have urged him to ensure a fair and thorough investigation into these matters.”

While the AAP seeks a direct meeting with the administration, the political tension remains high. The L-G’s office has not yet publicly confirmed receipt of the letter or responded to the request for an immediate appointment. The delegation’s next steps depend on whether a meeting can be arranged, which would determine the timeline for the review of the alleged financial discrepancies.

Sanjeev Jha addressed the media later, reiterating that the delegation is prepared to present its case. He described the situation as a matter of public accountability. The AAP leader added that the opposition remains united in its stance against the alleged misuse of funds. “On any serious issue concerning the interests of the people of Delhi, the AAP and the Opposition will fulfil their responsibility with full strength,” he said.
